El poder unificador de la separación • The unifying power of separation

ESPAÑOL (for english just scroll down)

A few days ago, while reading a mail sent by one of my younger brothers, I saw on the "to" list the name of someone that (for many many years) was one of the best friends of my dad: Alvaro Perdomo. Now he was becoming part of our family life again.
I was still a kid so I don't remember why my dad's friendship came to an end. Some of the direct fruits of that ending was a new church and a few ministries that are well and alive until this day in that new congregation. Anyway, my dad and Alvaro didn't spoke to each other for more than 15 years and, obviously, we grew up without having any contact with him. This is why my brother's mail made me think about all this.
Last year, because of my older sister's death, Alvaro came to us and my dad didn't left from him. They both forgot about the pride and they both let that the pain of losing Ruby filled them with the most paradoxical power in this life: The unifying power of separation.
The separation from my sister reunited these long time friends.
Have you ever wonder why does things like that happen? Is extraordinary how the most devastating separation that we can experiment on this side of the river has, at the same time, so much unifying power. It looks like death calls forgiveness and pain calls the embrace.
But... if you we really think about it, the phenomenon of the unity by separation is not so strange. If I'm not wrong, the day that Christ was separated from the Father at Calvary, we were reunited with God. Do you see it?
The unifying power of separation is so weird and wonderful as the resurrection power of death.

While listening to a Hillsong melody about the fire from God, I'm thinking in what we've lived the last few days. What else did I learned? This: The church of Christ is wonderful!
My mother in law was the first to surprise me that friday morning, when she bought a lot of flowers to decorate the coffin. But that wasn't the only amazing thing and it was present a lot of time before that moment. There were sisters who cooked and picked up trash for two whole days. There were brothers that came on thursday night to put the church in order for the funeral, then (on saturday) they cleaned up everything so the church could have the sunday service.
There were others that bought food for the people who was cooking. Some others gave the news around the churches and more people showed up! People we weren't expecting! Pastors from other churches, members from other churches, sisters and brothers from other churches. And that was only here, at the city.
The saturday morning, when we came to El Tejar, more than 50Kms far from the city, at my brother in law's parent's home, it was like we haven't even got out of our neighborhood. The christians of that little town made us feel at home. The singing, the preaching, the joy, the support, the prayers, the walking through the town with the flowers and the coffin and the ovation that cheered a champion that had reached the finish line. Everything was so familiar!
Now, a few days later, the support continues. The church of Christ is wonderful! The body of Christ is the most powerful force on the earth!
A time ago I heard a preacher saying this and I agree: There are a lot of places with no hospital, no school, no police nor malls, but there's always a church. That's power! And when the church really wants to, it can conquer anything, even the pain of the death!

The last day that my sister breath on this earth in the ICU, was a good day. All the people who visited her and the people who helped with her therapy that thursday, all say the same thing: she looked different. Radiant. Happy. It appeared that she could rise up from that bed any moment. She even spoke, despite the tracheotomy.
She asked for the church, the Christ family and the blood family. She confessed that she wanted to eat a tamal with lemon, so bad. That's the story of that thursday. She was joyful.
She gave a message to my mom (which, after more than 30 years of sharing life, ended being her mom too). The message was: "Tell my dad that I'm fine. No, tell my dad and my brothers that I'm really fine. No, tell everyone that I'm really fine and that today is my first day." She also told my mom that the doctors had disconnected her from the life support a few times.
At night, while mi brother in law (and in Christ) was doing her therapy, Ruby asked him to call the doctors because she was feeling something weird. The doctors came and after a few moments, at 7:30pm, my older sister blinked... and saw Jesus for the very first time. She was 41.
So... What did I learned? This: That thursday she was about to get off that bed indeed. Besides, I don't know if she knew that she was living the "first day" of her "forever" but her joy gives me a hint because when I travel, I miss my wife so much that the best day of the journey is always the day that I will be coming back home.
God decided to heal her perfectly and not in the way that we wanted. God decided to disconnect her, not only from the life support, but from this artificial life that we live before we totally step into His presence. And last, I learned that God wanted that my older sister's last day on this earth would be a wonderful day. The day that she was going to, finally, see her Savior's face.

Cantale a Dios. Decile a tu alma: ¿Por qué estás triste? ¡Alabemos a Dios!
