In the weekday’s service, we’re studying the book of Proverbs, chapter by chapter. We choose a passage and look what God has to say. This week we’ve arrived to the 6th chapter that, at the beginning talks about money.
The bible tells us about the ants and commands us to learn from them. Why? Because they don’t have the brain capacity that we do and they don’t have a government or the organization capability that we have. So we should be able to work like them and better: prepare when we have for the times when we won’t.
The main teaching on these verses is that the problems will come. The bottom will drop eventually in our life and we should (and can) be prepared. How?
There’s an awesome teaching here: Our necessity is chasing us! But relax, it comes walking; it can’t run. Nevertheless, it can really get to us. If we get comfortable, if we get some more rest, if we get in the “some more sleep, five more minutes, one more day, I’ll do it tomorrow, I’ll will save the next month, the next time I won’t get in debt” attitude and we get sleepy in that point, our necessity will get closer and closer, until it finally catches us.
Of course there are problems that we can’t see and will surprise us, like an medical emergency or an accident, but there’s adversity that can be avoided just by not being lazy.
CONCLUSION
Almost everybody needs a race. This is our thought. I need a race. But, if we make a budget and take the firm decision to get out of debt, then we will get the race. The money is already there but we’re throwing it away.
The inconvenient, however, is that making a budget isn’t comfortable nor fun, but painful because it shows us how bad we have been using our money because we’ve let the money use us. But the truth is that accepting the problem is the first step to resolve the problem.
The 11th verse says that our “poverty” will come like an armed man that when finally catches you, it will let you with nothing. But it also tells us that it comes walking. It’s chasing you relentlessly but it can’t run. It’s hope is that you keep on sleeping so it can come closer.
Don’t let it come nearer to you anymore! There’s adversity that you can avoid by being prepared and if you need a race, you can get it if you decide to get out of debt and make a plan for it (like the “snow ball” method). The ant doesn’t have food during the bad time just for coincidence; the ant gets prepared. If you’re interested in this method, drop us an email and we’ll tell you.
