"Gracias" en lugar de "por favor" • 'Thanks' instead of 'please'

Pues habiendo conocido a Dios, no le glorificaron como a Dios, ni le dieron gracias, sino que se envanecieron en sus razonamientos, y su necio corazón fue entenebrecido. (Rom 1:21)

A menudo la oración es una lista de deseos que ponemos ante Dios con la esperanza de que él sí conteste (ya que Santa Claus nunca lo hace). Muchos pedimos sólo para satisfacer nuestros deseos. Muchos pedimos cosas que sólo tienen que ver con nuestros caprichos. Y muchos otros pedimos cosas espirituales, como valor para compartir el evangelio, paciencia en la prueba, amor al prójimo, santidad, control propio, salud, reconciliación, etc.

Sin importar si lo que pedimos es importante o vano, la cuestión es que nuestras oraciones casi siempre son listas de deseos y nos olvidamos de algo importantísimo: Darle gracias a Dios.

Ayer aprendí algo en el grupo de oración: Debo agradecerle a Dios por todo lo que ha hecho, pero también por lo que todavía no ha hecho.

Cada miembro del grupo agradeció por muchas cosas que el Señor ya hizo y por muchas otras que el Señor no ha hecho. Y todos tomamos el compromiso de cambiar nuestras peticiones por acciones de gracias. Ya que la fe es llamar las cosas que no son como si ya fueran... ¿por qué no agradecerle a Dios por eso que le hemos pedido pero que aún no ha hecho? ¡Tiene sentido!

Algunos le dieron gracias a Dios por los hijos que aún no les ha permitido concebir (pero que vendrán), otros agradecieron por sus familias que aún no le conocen (pero que se entregarán a él), otros agradecieron por las iglesias que aún no han sido sembradas (pero que cambiarán el mundo).

Pensá en algo que estás esperando que Dios haga pero que aún no ha hecho... ¡Y dale gracias precisamente por eso! Escogé una petición y dale gracias por ella. Ya no le pidás.

Too often the prayer has become just a wish list that we send to God instead of Santa. A lot of us ask for things to satisfy our desires. A lot of us ask for things to get happy our inner kid. And a lot of us ask for spiritual things, like courage to share the gospel, patience in the test, love fr people, holiness, self control, health, forgiveness, etc.

No matter if we ask deep or vain stuff, the truth of the matter is that our prayers, too often, are wish lists. And so, we forget something really important: Thanksgiving to God.

Yesterday I learn this in the prayer reunion: I must thank God for everything he's done, but also for what he has not done yet.

Each member of the prayer group thanked for a lot of stuff that the Lord has already made and many other that are still to come. And we all took the commitment to change our asking (in those subjects) for thanksgiving. Since faith is calling what is not like if it already is... Why not thank God for it? It make sense!

Some of the group gave thanks for the children that have not yet been conceived (but will come). Some gave thanks for their families that still not know Jesus (but will come to His feet). And some gave thanks for the churches that hasn't yet been planted (but will change the world).

Now you: Think in something that you're waiting for God to do, but hasn't done yet... And give thanks to Him precisely for that! Choose a something you've been asking God for and ask no more. Give thanks instead!
